Managing Director
John de Garis
John has been managing money for a long time, and it shows in the way he thinks. His career began in the City of London in 1987 at Provident Mutual, before moving to MAP Fund Managers where he developed experience running equity portfolios. He later joined Credit Suisse Asset Management in London, where he spent 17 years and eventually became Head of European and Sterling Fixed Income, one of the more demanding seats in that market.
He came to Guernsey in 2008 when he joined Edmond de Rothschild as Chief Investment Officer, and became a founding Director of Rocq Capital following the 2016 management buyout. He was appointed Managing Director in 2022.
Fixed income remains his particular area of expertise, and his understanding of how bond markets behave across different economic cycles has shaped much of how Rocq approaches portfolio construction. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and holds the Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice and Management.
John's career spans nearly four decades and several distinct market environments. Clients who work with him tend to notice that he has seen most things before, and that it shows in how calmly he approaches the ones that feel new.
